EC issue show cause notice to BJP's Abhijit Gangopadhyay over remarks against CM
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended ‘X-category’ security protection to Rekha Patra, who spearheaded protests against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali. Patra, now the BJP candidate for the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat, will receive heightened security ahead of the upcoming elections, scheduled for June 1.
The decision to provide Patra with enhanced security comes after concerns were raised by an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report, indicating potential threats to her safety. With Commandos from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) assigned to safeguard the Sandeshkhali activist, measures are being taken to ensure her protection amidst the volatile political landscape.
In addition to Patra, five other BJP leaders have been granted security cover by the MHA, including Pranat Tudu, Nirmal Saha, Ashok Kandari, Ashok Purkait, and Karthik Paul.
